A movement minute and swimming and gym card campaign for upper secondary level students
A student’s everyday life can be hectic – but there is always a minute for exercise, so #movementminute. Social media influencer Netta, together with the City of Helsinki, challenges upper secondary level students to move one minute at a time in October-November. It can be squatting while preparing coffee, x jumping while waiting for the lift or doing biceps curls with shopping bags – find your own way of moving. Everyday exercise also has many positive effects on studying: among others, it can improve concentration and memory as well as stimulate the mind. Start with a minute!
And if you feel you would like to move even more, grab the 10x swimming and gym card for a promotional student price of €10 + €4 (normal price €25 + €4). The promotional price is valid from 21 October to 10 November 2024.
Even the slightest movement helps
The importance of everyday activity and a bit of movement for mental and physical well-being should not be underestimated. Upper secondary level students spend 70% of their waking time sedentary and only 20% achieve the recommended amount of movement. The amount of everyday movement and participation in sports activities decreases among upper secondary level students. It is important to promote movement, as it has been proven to have positive effects on mental health, learning ability and the management of emotions.
In Helsinki, movement among upper secondary level students is promoted on a long-term basis through cooperation between different divisions of the city. This # movementminute campaign is part of a larger package and one of the measures of the City of Helsinki’s well-being plan for 2022–2025 that is targeted at the upper secondary level. The mobility campaign strengthens other well-being work done at the upper secondary level.
Even a one-minute break from being sedentary creates a more physically active study culture and plays a meaningful role to support the ability to study.
