Safety is everything during the beach season
Helsinki’s beach season begins in June, with the lifeguards supervising the beaches from 5 June to 13 August 2023. During this period, Aurinkolahti and Hietaranta beaches will be supervised by lifeguards daily from 10.00–20.00, while Munkkiniemi, Lauttasaari, Pikkukoski, Mustikkamaa, Tuorinniemi, Laajasalo, Marjaniemi, Rastila, Iso Kallahti and Kallahdenniemi will be supervised daily from 10.00–18.00, including public holidays and Midsummer.
Lifeguards are there to prevent accidents and intervene in disruptive and potentially hazardous behaviour. However, it is important to remember that all beach users are responsible for their personal safety and that parents are responsible for their children. Children, in particular, must be closely supervised.
Water quality will be monitored throughout the summer
As in previous summers, the water temperatures of the beaches and blue-green algae sightings will be updated daily on the ulkoliikunta.fi/en service.
Water samples will be taken regularly at the public beaches during the summer to assess the hygienic quality of the water via the prevalence of intestinal enterococci, for example. Helsinki Environmental Services will perform enhanced water quality monitoring at Iso Kallahti, Marjaniemi, Pikkukoski and Rastila beaches during the summer of 2023.
The most recent test results on the swimming water quality will be presented on the beaches’ information boards, and information on the beach water quality can also be found at hel.fi/uimavesi
