Helsinki Winter Bash

Helsinki Winter Bash 2025 – see PAW Patrol and Mimi ja Kuku at the sportiest winter break event!

The traditional event to get the whole family moving, Helsinki Winter Bash, is organised again in the Paloheinä recreational area (Pakilantie 124) on 19 February, at 15.30–18.30.

Similarly to previous years, there are many winter activities on offer during the free-of-charge event. This year, parking is free in all Paloheinä recreational area parking areas during the Helsinki Winter Bash on 19 February 2025 from 15.00 to 19.00.

This year’s bash features children’s favourites PAW Patrol and Mimi ja Kuku! Two 30-minute meet-and-greet events are arranged for meeting Chase and Skye from PAW Patrol. The PAW Patrol meetings are arranged so that as many visitors as possible have the opportunity to meet and photograph the characters within the given time limit. Approximately 50–60 families will have the chance to meet the doggos during the half-hour time slot. You can meet PAW Patrol near the event stage from 15.45 to 16.15 and from 17.15 to 17.45.

Mimi ja Kuku, on the other hand, will take their show to the stage twice, at 16.30–17.00 and 18.00–18.30. Audience members can participate in the Mimi ja Kuku performance by finding their own inner strengths, because each and every participant is a hero in the Mimi ja Kuku show!

Paloheinä full of programme

As usual, the Winter Bash offers the opportunity for playing hockey, shooting goals, skating, taking part in the children’s skiing competition, snowshoeing, making snowmen as well as admiring the ski track making machinery and other vehicles. The mobile library is also open, and participants can look for treasures hidden within the event area. The Winter Bash soundscape is provided by DJ RNo.

Pakilan Veto organises a playful skiing competition for children. The track is approximately 200 metres long, and everyone can choose their own style from classic to free style skiing or anything in between. Four skiers start at one time, and everyone who finishes gets a medal. The participants in the children’s skiing competition must have their own equipment.

Thanks to blower snow and the snowmaking system used in Paloheinä, ski tracks are open for longer journeys, as well.

Helsingin Latu ja Polku offers children and adults the chance to try out snowshoes around Paloheinä. Besides being an excellent way to move in snow, snowshoes provide a nice time outdoors and a good form of winter sports.

Mobile children’s library Stoori brings a busload of enchanting stories to the Winter Bash. You can borrow books, movies or board games in the mobile library, or simply sit down for a bit of reading. Materials suitable for winter fun have also been compiled in Stoori. Visitors can also admire an ambulance, the City of Helsinki Sports Services’ ski track making machinery and the Pakinkylä Voluntary Fire Brigade’s fire engine close up. The fire engine is on standby, however, and may need to be deployed during the event.

The Helsingin Luistelijat skating association welcomes the entire family to skate with them at the ice hall. Get to know figure skating through various exercises and instruction.

HIFK Ishockey offers the chance to play ice hockey and participate in many related exercises. Why not take to the ice and try to score a goal against the HIFK junior goalies? Players from the HIFK men’s and women’s league teams will also make appearances during the event.

Please bring your own skates, helmet and other equipment for both sports. There is no separate skate and equipment hire during the Winter Bash.

A separate space is reserved for making snowmen.

Hiking lodge, ice hall café, cooking shelter and separate food stall open

You can purchase snacks for appetites big and small at the Helsinki Winter Bash. The Paloheinä hiking lodge as well as the ice hall and its café are open, and a separate food stall will be selling snacks and refreshments to visitors in the area. There is firewood in the new cooking shelter, which was introduced in Paloheinä one year ago, and the shelter can be used for eating and barbecuing your own food during the event.

The Helsinki Winter Bash is organised by the City of Helsinki Sports Services in cooperation with the Helsinki Ice Hall, Helsingin Luistelijat, HIFK Ishockey, Pakilan Veto, and Helsingin Latu ja Polku.

Dogs must be leashed at the event. Do not take dogs onto ski tracks or into the cooking shelter. Paloheinä has a separate sled dog trail where you can bring your dog.

The Helsinki Winter Bash programme may change due to weather conditions. The City of Helsinki has not taken out insurance for the Helsinki Winter Bash participants.
