Helsinki is a great place for diverse physical activity. Daily activity can be accumulated conveniently without needing any particular equipment, accessories or scheduling. Good, recurring physical activities to get the exercise that promotes health and well-being include walking and cycling, climbing stairs at your building, taking the dog out and doing yard work. 

Helsinki offers excellent voluntary and guided exercise opportunities for adult people, including outdoor recreation areas, swimming and sports halls, gyms and weightlifting rooms, outdoor sports facilities and sports clubs. 

The City of Helsinki’s Sports Services has many exercise groups for adult Helsinki residents of all fitness levels to increase the residents’ physical activity and offer sports services that maintain health and the ability to work. The groups are divided into different categories according to the type, effectiveness and level of requirement of the activity, making it easier to find the most suitable form of exercise for you.  

The city also offers physical activity counselling services for 30-63 years old adults to get you started. 

Regional exercise services are provided by Helsinki Sports Services to support the well-being of people in the districts of Kaarela, Mellunkylä, Vuosaari and Jakomäki–Tapulikaupunki.
